Fairfield, Solano County
Travis Air Force Base opened east of Fairfield in 1942 and took its present name in 1951, honoring Brigadier General Robert Travis. Known as the Gateway to the Pacific, it moves more cargo and passengers than any other military air terminal in the country. Large transport planes on approach are a daily sight over Fairfield.
